Jeff Hollow Orchard through the seasons

Harvest Calendar

Every Season Has Its Apple

From the first blossoms of spring to the last crisp days of autumn, Jeff Hollow Orchard follows the rhythm of the land. Here's what's in season — and how to make the most of it.

Growing with the Seasons

No two seasons at the orchard are alike. Each one brings its own varieties, its own flavors, and its own way of filling your home with something special. We grow over a dozen apple varieties across the year, and our candles are crafted to capture exactly what each season feels like when you're standing in the rows.

SpringApril – May
Spring at Jeff Hollow Orchard

Blossoms, beginnings, and the promise of the harvest ahead.

Spring

Spring at Jeff Hollow is all about anticipation. The trees wake up, the blossoms open, and the whole orchard fills with a soft, floral sweetness. It's not apple season yet — but it's the most beautiful time to visit. We open the farm stand for early-season goods and begin taking orders for the summer harvest.

Varieties in Season

Lodi — One of the earliest varieties, tart and bright — perfect for applesauce.

Zestar! — A crisp, sweet-tart early apple with a hint of brown sugar.

Spring Candle Mood

Our Orchard Apple Candle in spring is all about that clean, green-apple freshness — the scent of blossoms on a cool morning before the heat of summer arrives.

Our recommendation: Visit the orchard for blossom walks and pick up early-season preserves at the farm stand.
SummerJune – August
Summer at Jeff Hollow Orchard

Long days, warm sun, and the first apples of the year.

Summer

Summer brings the orchard to life. The first apples of the season arrive in late June, and by August the rows are heavy with fruit. It's warm, buzzing, and full of energy. This is when we start pressing cider and stocking the farm stand with fresh-picked varieties you won't find in any grocery store.

Varieties in Season

Pristine — Mild, sweet, and golden — great for eating fresh off the tree.

Ginger Gold — A warm, spiced sweetness with a firm bite. Excellent for baking.

Lodi — Tart and juicy — the classic summer apple for pies and sauce.

Summer Candle Mood

Burn our Orchard Apple Candle on a summer evening and you'll catch the warm, sun-ripened sweetness of apples at their peak — like standing in the orchard at golden hour.

Our recommendation: Pick-your-own opens in late July. Bring a bag and stay for fresh cider at the stand.
FallSeptember – November
Fall at Jeff Hollow Orchard

Peak harvest. The orchard at its most alive.

Fall

Fall is what Jeff Hollow Orchard is made for. The air turns crisp, the leaves go gold and red, and the orchard is bursting with our most beloved varieties. This is when we harvest the apples that go into our Apple Cinnamon Sugar — hand-picked at peak ripeness, dried slowly, and blended with warm spices. It's the heart of everything we do.

Varieties in Season

Honeycrisp — The crowd favorite. Explosively crisp with a perfect sweet-tart balance.

Fuji — Dense, sweet, and slow to brown — ideal for snacking and salads.

Cortland — Tender and mildly tart. Our top pick for pies and cider blends.

Empire — A McIntosh-Red Delicious cross with a rich, winey depth of flavor.

Golden Delicious — Mellow and sweet — the backbone of our Apple Cinnamon Sugar blend.

McIntosh — The classic New England apple — tender, juicy, and beautifully tart. A September staple at the stand.

Cox's Orange Pippin — A heritage English variety with a complex, nutty-sweet flavor and rich aromatic depth. One of our most prized fall picks.

Johnny Appleseed Tree — Our heritage seedling tree — grown from open-pollinated seed in the tradition of John Chapman himself. No two apples are alike, and that's exactly the point.

Fall Candle Mood

This is when our Orchard Apple Candle truly shines. The warm, spiced apple scent fills a room the way a harvest kitchen does — apples on the counter, cinnamon in the air, and the last light of October coming through the window.

Our recommendation: Stock up on Apple Cinnamon Sugar and Orchard Apple Candles — fall batches sell out fast. Order early.
WinterDecember – March
Winter at Jeff Hollow Orchard

The orchard rests. Your home doesn't have to.

Winter

The trees are bare and the farm stand is quiet, but the orchard lives on in your kitchen. Winter is the season for our Apple Cinnamon Sugar in hot drinks, baked goods, and holiday gifts. Our candles make the perfect companion for cold evenings — a little piece of the orchard when the ground is frozen and the rows are still.

Varieties in Season

Granny Smith (stored) — Firm and tart even after months in cold storage. Holds up beautifully in winter baking.

Fuji (stored) — Stays sweet and dense through the winter. A reliable snacking apple through February.

Winter Candle Mood

On a cold December night, our Orchard Apple Candle brings the warmth of the harvest indoors. It's the scent of something good on the stove — apple cider, spiced baked goods, and the memory of a fall afternoon in the rows.

Our recommendation: Our Apple Cinnamon Sugar makes a beautiful holiday gift. Order online or visit us at local winter markets.
